Carlos Mureithi is a Kenyan text, data and photo journalist who is currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area in the United States. He mainly reports about business, human rights, the arts and culture and his work has been published by, among others, Reuters, Al Jazeera and the Daily Nation. Mureithi has reported in Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Mexico. For his story on how boys in a Kenyan informal settlement are taught to prevent sexual violence against girls, he was the first runner-up in the print category of the Young Journalist of the Year award at the 2013 Annual Journalism Excellence Awards organised by the Media Council of Kenya. That same year, he was nominated for the David Astor Journalism Awards. Mureithi graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from the United States International University in Nairobi, Kenya. He is currently a pursuing a master's at the UC Berkeley Graduate of Journalism in the US as a MasterCard Foundation scholar. His concentration is new media.
